Have you recently been made aware of travel advisories issued by your local government concerning violence and or crime?

We appreciate you for addressing your concerns.

Although the US State Department raised its level of concern due to an increase in activity generally involving only residents of Jamaica, and not involving visitors to the island, the Jamaican government takes this very seriously, as tourism is vital to the local economy. Visitors should be reassured that they remain welcome and can expect to enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the Jamaican people during their visit. Despite the fact that cycling tourists are not generally targeted for crime or violence, nevertheless, we at Super Fowl Cycling Tours take additional precautions to ensure the safety and peace of mind of our clients.

We will be touring through visitor-friendly such areas as Ocho Rios, Annotto Bay, St. Mary’s Parish, and Port Antonio. These areas are frequently visited by tourist and have increased in tourism year by year.

As a reminder:

  • All of our tours are monitored and secured 24/7 with security details and support vehicles
  • We will travel during peak hours, maximizing daylight (necessary primarily for safe and comfortable cycling)
  • We always travel together as a group
  • Safety while lodging is ensured by grounds security
  • A wide range of additional security provisions, including local police or other escorts, will be available as conditions warrant

Safety and security measures aside, it’s always a good idea to be a smart traveler. It’s best to NOT bring any valuables and a large amount of clothing/luggage. The trip is very active and Eco-friendly, you will not need any of those items.

We have also included an article below describing the increase in tourism within the past year. Please review at your leisure.

Cycling Safely In Jamaica…

Is cycling in Jamaica Safe?

Road Cycling in Jamaica is an exhilarating experience surrounding by mountains and beaches. Traveling through parish towns immersed in roots and culture, we cycle on the soft shoulder of smoothly paved roads alongside traffic.

At Super Fowl Cycling Tours we use the two abreast cycling formation. Our lead tour guide, Master Cyclist Fowly, and our team of licensed and certified tour guides are positioned on the outside perimeter closest to traffic.

Behind the cycling group, our support vehicle follows closely, monitoring, controlling and signaling to the traffic on when to pass the cycling group.

A group of cyclists riding two abreast allows drivers to respect cyclists on the road, making it less likely that they will be hit from behind. The main reason is to make sure that drivers give them enough room when overtaking.

Master Cyclist Fowly, controls the front of the group with cycling signals, and constant directions to the group.

Instructions are given each morning before the ride. Following instructions clearly while being aware of all five senses will ensure your safety. Focus! Focus! Focus!

At Super Fowl Cycling Tours safety is our number one priority and every detail of our tours addresses safety seriously!

HOW TO TRAVEL WITH YOUR BIKE?

ET had it right…traveling in the air on a bike. And, why not take your favorite mode of transportation with you when vacationing? Traveling on a plane with a bike is as easy as riding a bike!

More and more vacation hot spots are becoming bike-friendly and there are many benefits to taking your bike on vacation.

My first experience traveling internationally with my bike was a lot easier than I expected. I thought it would be impossible and frustrating; however, to my surprise, it was quite easy. The airlines were very accommodating and my vacation turned out to be one of the best vacations I had in a long time. I owe it to the freedom of having my best mode of transportation with me.

So, you’re probably saying, “why not rent a bike when you get to your destination?” Yes, I could but my bike and I have a very close relationship. Also in the past when I rented bikes, they just weren’t what I was comfortable with. Some bikes were old, rusted, or just in okay condition. I felt more relaxed knowing the bike that I was riding was in good condition.

Everything looks different from the saddle of a bike. Without knowing and feeling it, I could continue my fitness regimen especially after blowing my diet on all the new and delicious foods that always seem better when you’re on vacation. And lastly, having your bike is great for the environment.

So how can you enjoy your vacation with your bike?

First, do your homework. Make calls to your airline and the destination. Ask all the questions you need no matter how silly you may think it seems. Most importantly, inquire about bike safety at your destination.

Pack your bike. This can seem daunting; however, either your local bike shop or bike club can assist you with packing your bike. You can choose either purchase a cardboard box, invest in a bike box, or rent a bike box from your local bike club. In my case, I rented a bike box from my bike club for a small fee. It’s very easy. Once you arrive, you can get the local bike shop to set up and repack your bike or you can learn how to unpack and repack your bike.

Use social media to chart your trip. Social media is a great tool to use prior to your travel to learn about bike trails, local bike clubs, meetups group, and bike events while traveling to your destination. Inquire about local bike shops and use social media to identify places of interest that are bike friendly. Most importantly, enjoy your ride!
